Coteau was first known as Coteau-Landing when the post office opened in 1847. The hypen was actually added in 1855 when the Grand Trunk opened its station just north of the community. In 1887 the station became known as Coteau Junction. Following that its name was changed once again to La Station-du-Coteau and shortened to Coteau-Station in 1984. The communities were amalgamated to form what is now known as Les Coteaux in 1995.
