Vancouver's first CPR station was built around 1887. In 1899 it was replaced with an imposing chateau-style structure that only lasted until 1914 when the third and final station was built. Now known as the Waterfront Station, the third station remains in use as a transportation hub.
In 1916 construction began on both the Great Northern and Canadian Northern Pacific stations. The Great Northern station was used by the Great Northern Railroad, Northern Pacific Railway and, until 1919, the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway (later CN). The GN station was demolished in 1965. The GN then moved next door into the CN station where they remained until 1969 when passenger service was discontinued.
The Canadian National Railway (formerly Canadian Northern) station was built in 1916 and completed in 1919. It is now owned by VIA Rail and is known as Pacific Central Station. It remains in use as a train station and transportation hub.
